Uni, also known as sea urchin roe, is a highly prized delicacy in Japanese cuisine and can be enjoyed in many different ways. Japanese Uni is considered to be of the highest quality.
Uni is typically described as having a sweet, creamy, and slightly briny flavor and its texture is often described as being soft and custardy. Enjoy uni with a sprinkle of lemon juice or a dash of soy sauce to enhance its flavor. It has a strong ocean smell and is thick, creamy, rich, and buttery in texture. A good friend of mine says eating Uni is like getting slapped by the sea...
This is a love-it-or-hate-it kind of flavor and texture.
Note that Uni is best FRESH as texture changes when frozen.
WHERE IS IT FROM?
