A5 Prime Rib Cooking Guide

international beef grading chart

The Pinnacle of Japanese Wagyu

You are looking at an A5 Miyazaki-Gyu Prime Rib. In the world of premium beef, there is no higher grade. Miyazakigyu is Japan's #1 Wagyu brand and the only program to win the national "Wagyu Olympics" twice in a row (2007 and 2012).

While you can find other A5 beef, Miyazakigyu is the cream of the crop. All Miyazakigyu is Wagyu, but not all Wagyu is Miyazakigyu. Cattle from the Miyazaki region that do not meet the strict criteria for Miyazakigyu must be sold as "Miyazaki Kensan Gyu" or simply "Beef from Miyazaki Prefecture."

Unmatched Marbling & Texture

This cut features a Beef Marbling Score (BMS) of 10+, resulting in a gorgeous webbing of fat that delivers a buttery, melt-in-your-mouth eating experience. It is literally like tasting a cloud—a cloud of beef.

Because of its intense richness, small portions are deeply satisfying. Many customers choose to cut larger pieces into individual steaks to share or enjoy over multiple meals.

Sourcing Story: The Miyazaki Difference

At Meat N' Bone, we made the conscious decision to sell only Miyazaki-Gyu because it represents the best in the world. Sourced directly from Miyazaki, Japan, this beef excels in every single grading factor: marbling, meat color and brightness, firmness, texture, and fat quality.

Like all of our steaks, this Prime Rib is hand-cut by our expert butchers, vacuum-sealed to preserve freshness, and shipped with rigorous cold-chain standards.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes Miyazakigyu different from other A5 Wagyu?

Miyazakigyu is a specific brand of Wagyu from Miyazaki Prefecture that meets strict quality criteria. It is the only Wagyu program to win the "Wagyu Olympics" twice in a row. While other beef may come from the same region, only the top-tier cattle earn the Miyazakigyu title.

How should I cook A5 Miyazakigyu Prime Rib?

Due to its high fat content, this beef is best cooked medium-rare to medium with minimal seasoning—often just a pinch of salt. We recommend a step-by-step guide available on our blog to ensure you get the most out of this premium cut.

How many people does a Prime Rib serve?

Because A5 Wagyu is so rich and buttery, portions are typically smaller than traditional prime rib. A 3 lb quarter piece can serve 4-6 people when cut into individual steaks or thin slices.

What is the Beef Marbling Score (BMS)?

BMS is a measure of the amount of intramuscular fat. A score of 10+ is the highest possible, indicating extraordinary marbling that results in a tender, flavorful, and buttery texture.

How is this product shipped?

Each cut is vacuum-sealed and shipped with rigorous cold-chain standards to ensure it arrives fresh and ready to cook. We offer nationwide shipping with careful handling.

Can I freeze A5 Wagyu?

Yes, if you are not cooking it immediately, you can freeze the vacuum-sealed package. For the best texture, thaw it slowly in the refrigerator before cooking.

Why is A5 Wagyu so expensive?

A5 Wagyu represents the highest grade of beef in Japan, requiring specific breeding, feeding, and care standards. Miyazakigyu, in particular, is a limited-supply brand that has won multiple national awards for its quality.

What is the difference between Prime Rib and Ribeye?

Prime Rib is the primal cut from which Ribeye steaks are sourced. This boneless Prime Rib allows you to cut your own thick or thin steaks at home, giving you control over portion sizes for this rich cut.
